H&M wish everyone a very merry Christmas!

Hi everyone — I’m H and I’m M!

We hope all you guinea pigs, and humans, are having a lovely Christmas! Ours is going well, right H? Oh, yes, M — we got a lovely Christmas salad this morning. We were also serenaded! (Sound is in the bottom righthand corner when you roll your cursor over the image)…

We realize we’ve been m-i-piggie for a while. Yes, H, we were with our grandhumans all Spring while Teresa was in France. And then we went back to grad school with Teresa this fall after a very travel-filled summer. It was a very busy semester for our humans… But I’m glad they’re making progress on their PhDs. Whatever those are… #wheek!

As you can see, we’ve been well loved and cared forEven if we haven’t posted much!

Wishing you all many salads and a #wheek and #popcorn filled new year!

Ramping up our piggie pad experience

Hi, it’s another guest post — I’m Patita, and I’m Boquita!

Today we wanted to share how we’re doing in OhioFirst though, we want to say that we miss our human, Jesús, a lot. We’re glad his trip went well and he’s safely in Peru! Definitely — many wheeks to that! Anyway, we’ve had some excitement here in Ohio — our new piggie pad has a ramp!!! It’s also the same type of piggie pad that H&M review here.

Boquita hiding under ramp

Boquita’s hiding under the ramp.

I’ll have all the piggies know that I, Boquita-the-adventurous-wanderer-piggie-of-extraordinary — they get the pig-ture, Boquita! Ok, fair enough, I just wanted to say that — I figured out the ramp first!  It’s true… I, Patita-the-sweet-and-loveable, was just happy to stay upstairs with the food and water and tunnel, what can I say?

Patita and Boquita's new piggie pad in Ohio

Well, Patita, there’s another water bottle downstairs… That you would know about if you came and joined me… Right. I’m perfectly capable of going up and down the ramp now! It just took a moment. Also, I’m feeling a little sneezy so I’m not exactly in tip-top shape. That’s why our grandhumans are taking you to the vet laterOh, it’s not just me they’re taking Boquita, you’re coming along for the ride, too! Oh… Well, I’m happy to keep you companyAwwww, thanks Boquita!

In keeping with our sisterly togetherness — here we are at the top of the ramp. I love running upppppp and dowwwnnnnn it!

We hope you have ramps to zoom up and down. And sisters who will go to the vet with you when you feel sneezy!

Squeak you soon,

Patita and Boquita

PS – Thanks H&M! We love guest posting!

our grandhumans are back from vacation!

Hi everyone — I’m H and I’m M!

We’re quite thrilled because our grandhumans are back from their trip to visit our human, Teresa.  She’s in France this semester doing research… We piggies know better, right M?  We do our critical squeaking right from our pigloos!  No need to travel further than that, that’s right, H!  Thankfully, we weren’t left alone or any such thing. Knock on piggie pad chloroplast none of our piggie readers have ever known a piggie who suffered such a sad fate.  Our fate was actually quite pleasant — we had a live-in sitter those weeks.  He was very good to us and we never went hungry.  To look at you, M, I’d even say you put on a few grams!!!  Well, I do declare, H, you’re looking heavier, too… Harrumph.

H&M 2

H is checking out Dan, the live-in human, during our grandhuman’s trip.

No matter, M, no matter… It’s just good to be well-fed.  I love eating kale and endive and Timothy hay and — M, I think we get the picture. I’ll wheek to that H!

H&M 1

Dan really did treat us well!

It’s also nice to hear the stories that our grandhumans brought back about their many adventures. Apparently our human, Teresa, misses us a lot!  Also, M, did you hear?  Hear what, H?  That next week we’ll have Patita and Boquita here with us!  Our human, Jesús, is going to Peru after the semester ends for summer break!  That’ll be such fun!  Squeaking of fun, here’s a pig-ture of our grandhumans in front of the Louvre in Paris.  They definitely look like they had a blast!

H&M 3

our grandhumans in front of the Louvre in Paris

I think we’ll have a blast with Patita and Boquita!!!!  Definitely!!!  Three wheeks to that!  We hope all you other piggies have sisters or friends come to visit you, too!

May your Timothy hay and kale always be plentiful,

reviewing our piggie pad: a solid 5/5 squeaks

Hey everyone — H here, and M, too!

Today we want to discuss our piggie pad (or cage for all the humans reading this with their guinea pigs). Quite right, H, we are feeling quite pleased because we got a new addition — a ramp and a loft!  This means we can now run up and down the ramp to the loftHere I go, H!  First uuuuuuppppppp and now dowwwwwnnnnn.  Wheek!  M and I agree that it’s really a lot of fun and we want to thank our grand humans for the addition. Yes, it was a very neat present over Winter Break!!

H and M in loft eating endive

Here we are eating endive in our loft

We’re sure you’re curious to see what it looks like — yeah — here’s a view of it!  You might see how it’s all covered.  We have a covered pigloo because of our feline friend, Charlotte, who lives with our grand humans.  We like Charlotte a lot — she watches us during the day sometimes.  Yeah, we’re her piggie-tainment!

Piggie Pad east side

This is our piggie pad!

We hope all you piggies have nice ramps to run up and down.  And that you get to eat lots of kale and endive — endive is definitely my new favorite!  True statement, M!  We give our piggie pad — and endive — a solid 5/5 squeaks 🙂

Have a wonderful nap in your pigloos today friends,

new routines and new family members!

Hey everyone – I’m H and I’m M!

You may have missed us these last months… We sure missed you!  It never ceases to amaze us how much time our humans, Jesús and Teresa, have spent on their degrees. But now they’re All But Dissertation, right H?  Yes, indeed, M! We’re very glad they can return most of their focus to the most important things in their lives — their piggies!  I’ll wheek to that, M!!!  But we’ve gotten distracted — we actually have lots of news to share!!  Are we going to tell our fellow piggies about Patita and Boquita, H??  Yes, M, you literally took the squeaks out of my mouth!

piggie family

from left to right – H, Boquita, M and Patita

So we’re so happy to have these two little ones join our piggie family! Boquita means “little mouth” in Spanish — but we both know H that she’s actually a big mouth… Be nice, M! She does squeak loudly and proudly, that’s for sure — she’s got quite the personality.  And Patita means “little paw” in Spanish — I think she looks like a tiny version of me, now that I think about it… M, you and Patita really do look similar! I overheard Jesús and Teresa say that when they were at the pet store picking out food in mid-November they saw Patita and couldn’t leave her because she looked so much like you, M. Well! That’s #wheeking awesome! Boquita has a personality a bit more like yours H… I think it’s fun to examine our family resemblances 🙂

Jesús with piggies

Jesús with Boquita and Patita

It’s also fun to watch our little sisters grow. Yeah, just when we couldn’t have alfalfa hay they came along and got to go through what we just went through! Yep, being big sisters has led to a lot of popcorning.

Teresa with the whole piggie family!

Well, the pigloo is calling — nap time for me!  Maybe we are old now — because I feel my pigloo calling, too — race you to the nearest oneOh — I forfeit — I suddenly feel the urge to eat a lot of timothy hay… #wheek!

May your paths to your pigloos be strewn with much hay,

piggie provenance

Hi everyone!  This is H here, and I’m M!

1265143_10153172732050392_188486517_o

H is standing on the front porch of her pigloo. In the background is a Peruvian flag next to an American one.

You all may remember that a while back we posted about our 4th of July.  The post included lots of pig-tures of us posed by our American flags.  Well, we didn’t want our human, Jesús, to feel left out…  So when he brought a Peruvian flag for us from Peru we made our human, Teresa, hang it in our piggie pad (or cage)!  Yeah, you can see she also put up an American flag next to it, which is cool.  Yeah!  It represents how we’re half Peruvian and half American!  We just wanted to take a moment to celebrate our cool origins with all our pig-pals 🙂

IMG_6086

H is celebrating her heritage by eating an array of bell pepper slices and fruit pieces.

We’ll definitely share our treat salad with you guys if you ever visit us!  Yeah, wherever you piggies are located, it’s cool to think about where we came from.  We hope your humans celebrate your provenance with you!  Our humans are really excited about how multi-cultural we are.  Wheek!  Alright, time for another photo session…

IMG_6029

Here we are getting our photo taken. M is acting a little shyer on the right…

We hope you’re all doing well!  Our humans are busy with the beginning of the semester, so Teresa’s hogging the computer a lot… Don’t worry though — we’ll find times to update you all!  Hip hip hay-ray!

Happy popcorning,

piggie kisses

Hey everyone! It’s H here — and M!

IMG_5978

Here is our human, Teresa, trying to kiss us. H is running away and M is observing closely.

Today we want to talk about our humans and how they show their affection.  It’s very funny how they like to pet us and hold us and kiss the tops of our heads.  Yeah, you’d think they could show affection in a guinea pig way by squeaking and wheeking and — don’t forget biting each other’s ears!  Quite right, M, so true — in fact — let me demonstrate.  Ouch!  Biting my ear in revenge, H, isn’t the way to go…. Squeaks, M, just means I love you!

IMG_5983

Teresa is still trying to kiss the piggies.

So at the end of every school day when our humans come home they pick us up and pet us and hold us.  They really enjoy spending time with us.  I love that they feed us hay and a kale salad when they put us back in the piggie pad.  Oh, H, that’s one of my favorite parts, too.  I also like to nuzzle our humans, Jesús and Teresa.  It’s fun when we head-butt their hands off our heads while they pet us.  WheekWheek!  And occasionally, I even let my humans kiss my head.

IMG_5979

H is trying to return Teresa’s kiss. Mwah 🙂

We hope your humans show lots of affection to you all!  And maybe someday our humans might even perfect guinea pig affection, too.  Sure, H, when piggies fly…

Squeaks to you all!

the perfect piggie pair

Hey guinea pig friends — this is H — and I’m M!

IMG_5974

Here we are in our “siamese piggie” pose. H is on the left and I (M) am on the right.

We’re happy to be back online after our human, Teresa, finished an intensive weeklong class in advanced levels of improv.  Our other human, Jesús, is now back from Peru to photograph our every move and document our glamorous life now, too.  This marks the beginning of a fabulous week — don’t you agree — M?  WheekWheek to that for sure, H!

IMG_6029

Obviously, we’re just showing off how cute we are 🙂

Our plans include many things now we’re settling into our routine for the semester: to eat kale, to popcorn, to squeak and wheek.  And we can bask in how cute we are and how our humans can’t wait to see us when they come back from a long day at school.

IMG_6030

Perhaps the best picture of our relationship — here we are showing “affection” for one another.

It is rather amusing that we’re now referred to as “squeaky babies” by our humans right in time for us to turn into adults by the end of the month.  They do have some of the strangest names for us, H, you’re right.  And how can they forget we’re on the cusp of a huge life event?  Yeah, M, calling us “babies” will only be accurate for a couple more weeks and then we’re full grown!  Whoa!  That’s intense!  Yeah, M, but just think about the party our humans will throw — we’ll have a carrot cake for sure!  YUM, H, yes, our humans do seem up for throwing a “Sweet piggie 18” party for usOh, yes, M, that party is such a big deal in the piggie world.  I’m glad we have our humans and I’m glad we have each other.  Awwww, H, you just made me squeak.

Time for kale!  Oh yes!  And we hope your humans all appreciate your wonderful squeaky qualities and celebrate your major life events in style.

the cleaning human came by today

Hi guinea pig friends — this is H — and I’m M!

I remember we’ve talked about our new piggie pad (or cage for the human speakers) before, M.  True, H, we have and we mentioned how much we like our popcorn fleece and are confused by the little monsters one… Yeah, M, why would they get us the little monster fleece???  No clue… Anyway, today’s post is about when the cleaning human stops by.

IMG_20130813_195846

The cleaning lady (our human, Teresa), sure does seem to carry a lot of tools with her…

Her schedule is pretty predictable now — she comes every third day to revamp our piggie pad.  It’s wonderful when it’s done, but look at where she puts us while she’s working.  Yeah guinea pig friends, you’re seeing correctly: a clothes basket!  She lines it with some sort of strange fleece, too, H. I’ve heard her call it a diaper.  Wonder what that is?  She was telling Jesús about how absorbent it is and how she finds them in the adult incontinence aisle at the drug store.  So many words human have no meaning for piggies in that sentence, H, I honestly don’t know how you remembered that gobbledygook!  Practice, M.  It takes practice…

IMG_20130813_200101

As you can see, M and I wind up in the clothes basket with some hay as our human does the dirty work.

Anyway, she’s concocted a piggie safe cleaning spray using essential oils and other ingredients.  It smells funky if you ask me, H!  From what she and Jesús have said it’s way safer than the store bought chemical kinds of cleaners.  What’s a chemical???  No clue…  Humans and their odd terms.  Why can’t they say things like: hay, wheek, treat, kale, carrot, apple slices, green pepper — words guinea pigs respond to??  It does make a piggie wonder…

IMG_20130813_200211

Before the fleece gets put in there’s a layer of newspaper and towel in our food/potty area and the layers of towels everywhere else.

As our cleaning human goes about her tasks, she rolls up the soiled fleeces and towels, throws away the existing newspaper/diaper combo (between the sheets of newspaper is a segment of adult diaper), and then sprays down the red base surface with her cleaning solution.  How did you squeak all that in one breath, H???   I come from a long line of great squeakers of the piggie-verse — just trying to keep up the great squeak-dition. WheekWheek to that!

IMG_20130813_200414

Our favorite part is when we get put back in with the fresh fleece and fresh hay is put in our hay ball! #wheek

Once the whole base has been sprayed and wiped down, our cleaning lady reassembles the towel layer and creates a new newspaper/diaper section for the food area of our piggie pad.  She sort of takes a long time to do all this…  So we normally eat all the hay by the time she finishes.  But it’s fine though because when she puts us back in the piggie pad she refills our hay ball!!!!  WheekWheek!!! We love our hay ball!!!

We hope your cleaning humans give you lots of treats!  And we definitely hope they fill your hay ball once they put you back in your piggie pad!

Peace, hay and squeaks to you all!

little miss smarty piggies

Hey everyone — I’m H — and I’m M!

IMG_20130810_195420

H is really excited about reading — she wants to eat the page. M has buried her head in the fleece and fallen asleep.

Today we wanted to talk about one of our hobbies: reading.  Well, H, if the picture here isn’t enough to give it away, I’m thinking reading is one of your hobbies — not mine!  Oh, well, I think of “reading” in a loose sense of the word — I’m just trying to eat the pages of the book really…  WheekWheek, that’s what it seems like in the picture of us, yes.  Well, M, I am trying to give our human, Teresa, some moral support as she plows through all the plays by Molière, Racine and Corneille for one of her summer reading lists.  That’s nice H, I think I’ll stick to napping when the books come out

IMG_20130810_194348

H is reading a play by Molière — L’école des femmes — from the looks of it.

While M is napping, I try to do my piggie best to read along with our human.  When that fails — I eat the pages to distract her from her reading list.  I‘m so proud of us because we are the best guinea pig pals for her!  H, you’re distracting her by attacking the object she’s looking at and I’m distracting her by being a further distraction by how adorable I am while I sleep.  She can’t resist us — three Wheeks to us!

IMG_20130810_195052

H also likes to help our human, Teresa, on the computer with her typing.

And finally, I wanted to say that when Teresa uses her computer I like to help, too.  Although the last time you “helped” you wound up crawling up her shirt to her shoulder where you proceeded to try to eat her hair.  Shameless diversion tactic, I know, M, but I had to distract her from her prospectus somehow!  Oh I’m pretty sure the chunk of hair that fell on her keyboard distracted her quite a bit…  Yes, she put me back in the piggie pad really quickly after that, true… Ah well, a piggie’s work is never done!  I’m off to the pigloo, H, care to join?  Yes!

À bientôt dear readers — this is H signing off.  Harumph, just because she can read the French books, doesn’t mean she has to show — what are you going on about, M??  Nothing — time for hay!  Oh, yum!
